I type d that tyitle twice because I knew it was wrong the first time. Still wrong. w/e. GF’s out at a lesbian bar, BTC crashing WHY AM I HOLDING? I’LL TELL YOU WHY. It’s because I’m a bad trader and I KNOW I’M A BAD TRADER. Yeah you good traders can spot the highs and the lows pit pat piffy wing wong wang just like that and make a millino bucks sure no problem bro. Likewise the weak hands are like OH NO IT’S GOING DOWN I’M GONNA SELL he he he and then they’re like OH GOD MY A-HOLE when the SMART traders who KNOW WHAT THE F- THEY’RE DOING buy back in but you know what? I’m not part of that group. When the traders buy back in I’m already part of the market capital so GUESS WHO YOU’RE CHEATING day traders NOT ME~! Those taunt threads saying “OHH YOU SHOULD HAVE SOLD” YEAH NO S-. NO S- I SHOULD HAVE SOLD. I SHOULD HAVE SOLD MOMENTS BEFORE EVERY SELL AND BOUGHT MOMENTS BEFORE EVERY BUY BUT YOU KNOW WHAT NOT EVERYBODY IS AS COOL AS YOU. You only sell in a bear market if you are a good day trader or an illusioned noob. The people inbetween hold. In a zero-sum game such as this, traders can only take your money if you sell.
so i’ve had some whiskey
actually on the bottle it’s spelled whisky
w/e
sue me
(but only if it’s payable in BTC)
Inspirational Quotes From the “I AM HODLING” Post
Here are some inspirational quotes from the famous December 2013 BitcoinTalk forum post “I AM HODLING” which inspired the HODL meme.
FACT: Did you know Satoshi themself started BitcoinTalk?
First, let’s start with the post that started it all (I put the best parts in bold, clearly “best” is subjective):
December 18, 2013, 10:03:03 AM
Here is one about some 2013 China FUD. This is from Comment #14 on the I AM HODLING. It was posted on December 13th, same day as the original post. In other words this comment discusses the China FUD of the day and “the previous crash…” If this person bought back in, they outperformed Kyuubi and probably slept better at night. Selling half your coins when the market turns bearish and ACTUALLY buying them back is a good move… if you can pull it off. NOTE: Notice that SODL never took off despite it being brought up very early.
This was too good on opportunity though. Surely it was pretty easy to react to the bad news from China?
I sodl half my coins at $730 and i’ll get em back at a later date when this all stabilises.
I was planning to hodl through everything with my Bitcoins after I had a bit of a panic during a previous crash. But seemed crazy not to sell this time…
If anything, I probably should have cashed them all out but you can never be sure about anything with BTC so half seemed the “safest” thing to do. win/win.
Next up is a series of comments that compares HODLers (to Spartans) comment #25, comment #33, comment #40, and comment #41 December 18th, 2013.
A commenter posts this:
Then another commenter posts this:
We all need to HODL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SPARTA!!
Then another commenter posts this:
People forget that the Spartans died in the end
Lastly, another commenter posted this:
We all die in the end… but the Spartans became a legend!
Comment #80 has great foresight, I wonder if they pulled this off?
<— Another hodler that’s hodling for the next 2 years.
Sometimes HODL is said to mean “Hold on for Dear Life.” There is some confusion over the validity of this, but I have found a solid answer. Comment #119 on I AM HOLDING, the post the HODL meme comes from, says “HODL = Hold On for Dear Life.” That comment was written on February 18th 2013, only 5 days after the original post….. it also says “Hold On to Da Loot.” Kind of makes everyone who gave @MelissaLeeCNBC a hard time over this look foolish. Also, this “Hold On to Da Loot” interpretation is FIRE, why don’t we use that one more?
Check it out:
What does HODL mean (except for a typo in the tt)
HODL = Hold On for Dear Life
HODL = Hold On to Da Loot
…
The thread goes on to apply every meme of the day to HODL, it then goes on for 132 pages spanning from 2013 – 2018. And guess what, I am bored of writing this post. HODL on and DYOR. 😀
TIP: Learn more about the origin of HODL.
