A list of noteworthy exchanges one can use to buy/sell cryptocurrency. Novices are advised to start with Coinbase/Coinbase Pro.

First off, you should note that we almost exclusively review exchanges that we have used, with solid volume, that have built a positive reputation for themselves over time.

With that said, in a few cases where we are prohibited due to region / country, like with BitMEX, we have not used the exchange to do live trading.

In other words, these are generally all exchanges we would recommend to a friend based on reputation and/or have used ourselves.

With the above said, there are risks associated with any exchange and you must use each at your own risk.

There are specifically risks with leaving cryptocurrency on an exchange, exchanges going down, and risks in terms of placing orders (if you mess up a buy/sell order, there is no going back).

Balancer is a DEX exchange that uses automated market making to perform swaps like Uniswap. The big difference is in how it handles liquidity pools.


SushiSwap

SushiSwap is a Uniswap competitor that seeks to beat the competition by, for example, attempting to provide better rewards for liquidity providers.


PayPal

You can buy, sell and hold cryptocurrency on PayPal. Currently, PayPal supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash. 


Uniswap

Uniswap is a DEX that has become increasingly popular due to the DeFi boom of 2020 due to its ability to swap a wide array of Ethereum-based tokens.


FTX

FTX is a popular futures and derivatives exchange for crypto. Their standout products include tokenized indexes, tokenized leveraged positions, and perpetual futures contracts.


LedgerX

LedgerX is a US-regulated crypto derivatives exchange. For now they only have Bitcoin options, but they plan to expand their offerings.


Huobi.US

Huobi US (Huobi.us) is an upcoming exchange for US citizens by Huboi.


Binance.US

Binance.us is Binance for the United States. The exchange plans to list a selection of cryptocurrencies that can be traded in the US.
