MyEtherWallet Rebrands to MyCrypto (Sort of)
The Ethereum wallet provider MyEtherWallet changed its name to MyCrypto. Although the situation is a little complex, this doesn’t effect the MyEtherWallet product.
Here is what is up:
- Essentially MyEtherWallet (MEW) rebranded to MyCrypto. In this respect there was just a rebranding of the company behind MyEtherWallet.
- For now, and potentially for always, you can still use MyEtherWallet via the myetherwallet.com, it is still called MyEtherWallet and still works just like it always has. There has just been a change in management (essentially one of the two main founders broke away from the other).
- However, the backstory is super confusing. Apparently one of the founders of MyEtherWallet was not fully on board with the change. Thus, in this respect, the rebranding is being described as a fork of sorts by some.
Honestly, it is a little hard to parse this all together, but it is probably all best summed up by the following tweets and Medium post:
The gist being: “don’t freak out, MEW still exists, they are now just called MyCrypto.”… but also “You now have a choice between using MEW or mycrypto.com.” Where MyCrypto looks exactly like MyEtherWallet, and is, and is created by one of the two founders of MyEtherWallet, hence the idea of it being like “a fork.”
Intentions seem good, but this could have been a lot less confusing for anyone using MyEtherWallet (which is a ton of people since they are a go-to for ICOs).
Hey all, don’t freak out but we’re no longer @myetherwallet. MEW still exists, but we’re now MyCrypto. ?

What is MyEtherWallet? MyEtherWallet is a popular choice for an Ethereum and ERC-20 friendly wallet. If you aren’t using EthereumWallet, it is the next best thing if you want to participate in ICOs or need a simple way to send and receive Ether.
