Coinbase Consumer Offers Crypto-to-Crypto Conversions

Coinbase’s consumer focused app “Coinbase Consumer” (i.e. Coinbase.com / the app in the app store) now allows crypto-to-crypto conversions.

That means you can go from, for example, ETH to BTC and back again from your phone without ever placing a limit or market order Coinbase Pro.

To make a conversion simply go to the coin you want to swap out of and click the “convert” button. You’ll be charged the market rate, but there is no additional fee. Please consider the current rates carefully before clicking “ok.”

REMINDER: All crypto trades are taxable events in the US. Whether you are going from ETH to cash, ETH to BTC, or ETH to USDC you are realizing a capital gain or loss at the time of the trade that needs to be calculated in its dollar value. So while this feature is very cool, you should still take special consideration regarding taxation before swapping your tokens around.
