The XRP Airdrop: SPARK and the Flare Network Explained
SPARK Airdrop Overview
The XRP airdrop SPARK is happening 00:00 GMT on 12/12/20. Most exchanges will support the airdrop. You can also qualify for the airdrop by having your XRP in a non-custodial XRP wallet.[1]
SPARK SNAPSHOT: A snapshot will be taken of all XRP Ledger addresses at a specific ledger index number. That will be the first validated XRP ledger with a timestamp greater than or equal to 00:00 GMT on 12/12/20. Anyone holding XRP in a qualifying wallet will then be able to claim SPARK.
What is SPARK? What is the Flare Network?
SPARK is a token being created and airdropped to Ripple (XRP) holders. It is the token of a smart contract system for the XRP ecosystem called the Flare Network. The Flare network will allow new and existing Ethereum applications to be deployed on Flare including DeFi applications and Ethereum Dapps.
How Many SPARK Tokens Do I Get?
SPARK tokens are given 1:1. Meaning you get 1 SPARK for each XRP you have.
All XRP owners barring Ripple Labs and certain previous employees of Ripple Labs can claim the Spark token.
There will be a total of 45 Billion SPARK.
How Do I Qualify For the SPARK Airdrop?
Keep your XRP on any exchange that supports the SPARK airdrop or in a non-custodial XRPL account you have prepared using the steps below.
How Do I Claim SPARK Tokens on Exchange?
The simplest way to claim SPARK tokens is by keeping your XRP on an exchange that supports SPARK.
Essentially all major exchanges will support SPARK, but you can see a full list of exchanges that support SPARK here.
How Do I Claim SPARK Tokens with a Wallet?
To claim SPARK if you use self custody, set the Message Key field on your XRP Ledger address to your Flare address. Your Flare Address is an Ethereum-style address, since Flare uses the Ethereum network. The following directions are from the official Flare Network website:
First, Obtain an Ethereum compatible address for which you hold the secret.
These will give you a public address of the form:0x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb610x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb61
You can also use an existing Ethereum address but please see the privacy considerations above.
1) Take your Ethereum-compatible address of the form 0x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb610x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb61, remove 0x0x from the front and upper-case the remaining characters to produce a character set of the form: 415F8315C9948AD91E2CCE5B8583A36DA431FB61415F8315C9948AD91E2CCE5B8583A36DA431FB61. Note: the upper-casing and lower-casing in the original address does not matter.
2) Append 0202 + 24 zeros to the uppercased character set to produce: 02000000000000000000000000415F8315C9948AD91E2CCE5B8583A36DA431FB6102000000000000000000000000415F8315C9948AD91E2CCE5B8583A36DA431FB61.
3) Set this value as the message key on your XRPL account.
And that’s it! Then your XRPL account will be prepared to receive Spark tokens on the Flare Network at your address: 0x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb610x415f8315c9948Ad91e2Cce5b8583A36dA431fb61.
For XUMM wallet holders and Ledger Nano holders of XRP, you can prepare your account seamlessly today using a tool developed by Wietse Wind, founder of XRPL Labs, at https://flare.wietse.com.
